At Toolern Vale & District Primary School, our Physical Education program helps students build the confidence, skills and motivation to lead active, healthy lives. Through inclusive and engaging activities, students develop movement skills, teamwork and an understanding of how physical activity supports overall health and wellbeing.
Aligned with the Victorian Curriculum 2.0: Health and Physical Education, our program provides opportunities for students to practise skills, apply strategies in games and learn about healthy, active lifestyles. We make the most of our open green spaces and strengthen learning through access to local facilities and visits from sporting organisations.
Foundation–Year 2: Students develop fundamental movement skills such as running, jumping, throwing and catching. They learn to play safely, follow rules and work cooperatively with others.
Years 3–4: Students begin to apply these skills in modified games, developing teamwork, decision-making and simple strategies.
Years 5–6: Using a Game Sense approach, students apply skills and tactics across a range of sports, building teamwork, problem-solving and strategic thinking. Senior students also have the opportunity to represent the school in interschool sport competitions.
Swimming: Students participate in a swimming program, building water safety skills and confidence.
Athletics: Students in Years 3–6 take part in a school athletics day, with opportunities to progress to district competitions.
Sporting Schools Grants: Provide opportunities to access external programs and facilities, including local council venues, courts, and visits from sporting clubs and organisations.
Our Physical Education program encourages all students to be active, work together and develop lifelong healthy habits.
