Toolern Vale & District Primary School is situated in a beautiful natural environment, surrounded by a creek, forest, and gentle hills that host abundant native flora and fauna. While the school is classed as metropolitan, it is generally described as a ‘country’ school. The township of Toolern Vale is situated 40 kms north-west of Melbourne, located between Melton and Gisborne. The school’s small size and rural placement appeal to many families.
As of 2026, our school is comprised of seven classes, which are mainly composites. We offer specialist programs in Health and PE, the Arts, DigiTech and Italian. The teaching staff are supported by Wellbeing, Inclusion and Administration teams.
There is no temperature cut off for cancelling school on hot days. However, all classrooms are air conditioned and if temperatures are very high afternoon play outdoors will be limited.
If a Code Catastrophic Day is declared by the CFA our school will be closed. Parents will be notified on Sentral, notices sent home and signage placed on the school gate. You can also check school closures on the department website (www.education.vic.gov.au). No staff will be at the school on these days.
During the bushfire season we encourage families to enact their bushfire plan on high and extreme days. This may mean you choose to keep your child home from school.
