Toolern Vale & District Primary School is committed to promoting sun safety and protecting students from harmful UV exposure. As part of our SunSmart practices, we encourage safe habits during all outdoor learning and play.
To support this:
School uniform hats must be worn outdoors from the beginning of September to the end of April. Acceptable hats include wide-brimmed hats or legionnaire caps in bottle green.
Students are encouraged to wear sunglasses when outside. Sunglasses should meet Australian Standard AS 1067.
SPF 50+ sunscreen should be applied before school, with students encouraged to reapply before extended outdoor activities where appropriate.
Staff regularly remind students about sun safety, and outdoor activities are planned with UV levels in mind wherever possible.
Through these measures, we aim to promote lifelong sun-safe behaviours and ensure the wellbeing of all students while they enjoy outdoor learning and play.
*Students who do not have an appropriate hat will be asked to stay under the shade clothed areas.
